Olympics kicks off with flag gaffe

Olympic organisers LOCOG have been
forced to apologise to the North Korean
women's football team, after the South
Korean flag was displayed before their
first match.
Images of the team were shown on a
screen beside a flag for the neighbouring
nation, and caused such offence to the
reclusive country that the game was
delayed for an hour as they stormed off
the pitch in protest.
The incident happened at Glasgow's
Hampden Park, before a game against
Colombia, which North Korea went on to win 2-0.
The players were being introduced in a pre-game video when the South Korean flag
appeared in the package.
Offended, the squad walked off and they only returned when the correct flag was displayed.
A statement released by Olympics bosses said: "We will apologise to the team and the
National Olympic Committee and steps will be taken to ensure this does not happen again."
