Gombe evacuates students from Mubi

:Nigeria’s Gombe State Government has evacuated 360 of its citizens
studying in various institutions in Mubi, Adamawa state, following an attack
by gunmen on the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, in which some 25 students and
15 others were killed on Tuesday.
The students, accompanied by policemen, arrived at the Ministry for Higher
Education headquarters, Gombe, on Thursday.
They later left for their various local government areas in company of their
parents and guardians.
The President of Gombe State Students Association, Federal Polytechnic
Mubi chapter, Mr Emmanuel Abel, said the problem started 10 p.m. on Oct.
He said students were reading in the classrooms when they heard gunshots
at Students off-Campus Villa (Hostel) in Tudun Wada area of the town.
Abel added that two students of Gombe State origin were among the dead,
adding that one sustained serious injuries.
He described the incident as unfortunate, wondering why the perpetrators
could go to institutions of higher learning to kill helpless and innocent
The student leader called on the Federal Government to take measures to
end the violence in the north-eastern part of the country to guarantee peace
and a conducive learning environment for the students.
“I am calling on individuals to return to God and keep on praying because
the Federal Government only cannot ensure security.
“What our eyes saw, it is only God that can intervene in this issue,” he said.
Abel commended Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo for showing concern for
students’ welfare by giving the directive for quick evacuation of the

from the state encountered problems in Damaturu, Yobe and Maiduguri,
Borno respectively.
Three other students, Matthew Ilifu, Dije Mamman and Albert Samuel, who
also narrated their experiences during the attack, in separate interviews ,
urged the government to find lasting solution to the security challenges in
the country.
