Hon. Dapo Lam-Adesina Visits Oranyan Market, Sympathizes With Traders

The lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/South East federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedapo Lam-Adesina has visited the Oranyan market Ibadan, the Oyo State capital which was recently razed by fire to sympathize with the traders.

Nine houses and more than 80 shops were last week consumed by fire following a midnight fire outbreak in the market. The visibly shocked former commissioner in Oyo State, who visited the market after a town hall meeting with his constituents on Thursday 24th December, 2015 assured the traders that he will do all within his legislative capacity at the green chamber to assist them to rebuild the market by discussing with relevant government agencies to lessen the impact of their losses.

Hon. Adesina said "Let us thank God that no life was lost in the unfortunate incident. It is painful, pathetic, unfortunate and disastrous. I will want us to accept it as an act of God. However, I will like to urge government and well-meaning Nigerians to lend support to cushion the effect of the tragedy, especially the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)," he said.

Omo Oloore, as the youthful lawmaker is fondly called, also appealed to the leadership of the market to constitute a team which must include victims of the inferno to meet him, promising to assist them.

He advised the traders to always be safety conscious by ensuring that they remove everything that could cause fire outbreak in their shops, especially by switching off electrical appliances after close of work daily. We are in the dry season and with the harmattan haze, any small fire outbreak will wreak havoc.

In a chat with the lawmaker, some of the market leaders described the incident as worrisome and painful. "All what we have are gone. We cannot ascertain the amount of goods and properties gone but I can confirm that we lost several millions of naira," the Iyaloja disclosed.
